It’s the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with reminders on most social media sites to catch up and keep up with well-woman exams, self-examinations, and opportunities to help others. What a great time for women in the trades to focus on breast health and explore all the resources available to educate and take action.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation during Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Susan G. Koman Foundation has excellent resources on its website and shares “The Who, What, Where, When and Sometimes, Why” about breast cancer. The Foundation also has a breast care hotline where you can find local and national resources and also information about clinical trials. Right now, anyone in the position to donate can contribute with a 3X giving match
The CDC
For women between the ages of 40 and 64 who are uninsured or have a low income, consider a free or low-cost mammogram through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), overseen by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A community of support for survivors.
Anyone local to the Houston area who is facing breast cancer post-diagnosis (or any type of cancer) can receive free support at Canopy, a wonderful resource in The Woodlands at Memorial Hermann. But you don’t have to be a Memorial Hermann patient to participate! No matter where you are receiving treatment, you are welcome.
From yoga to pet therapy to wig fittings, the caring staff and volunteers at Canopy bring comfort, and even joy, during the toughest times.
