Right Choice Development & Construction, a Houston general contractor, recently completed a project at One Westchase Center—a 464,155 square foot Class A office building located on Westheimer Road near the Sam Houston toll road (Beltway 8). Our work focused on the 3,000-square-foot atrium area, which serves as a hub where a variety of people mix, mingle, and gather.
Notably, the 12-floor building is occupied by a delicatessen, a travel agency, a currency exchange center, retail establishments, a fitness center, and other amenities. With this volume of foot traffic in mind, Right Choice Development & Construction was hired to add beauty, aesthetics, and ambiance to the space by installing a water feature focal point in the 3,000-square-foot atrium.
Houston General Contractor Scope of Project

- Demo out the entire structure of concrete
- Install two retaining walls measuring 30 feet by 2 feet
- Pour a 90-foot long, 3-inch wide, 3-inch thick concrete slab

A “Nighttime” Solution
Nights and weekends: One of our company hallmarks is our flexibility and ability to bring novel solutions to the table. In this case, our crew worked nights and weekends exclusively to ensure speed, quality, and dependability during the demolition and installation process. Our overnight operations allowed for “business as usual” and prevented parking lot congestion.
Hands-on communication: This ability to work at night sets us apart from our competitors. The One Westchase Center project included oversight of electrical contractors, plumbing contractors, and a crew of 10 – 15 on a nightly basis. Our hands-on management team was on-site during the after-hours construction phase to oversee the workflow and ensure a seamless transition during the daytime operations of the complex.
Occupant-friendly demo and installation: The building remained tenant and commerce-friendly throughout the six-week completion date. Occupants could come and go daily without being exposed to noise, obstruction, or construction activity, which included night-time demolition and the use of a robotic jackhammer, a mini bobcat, wheelbarrows, and haul off of construction debris. The pouring of cement and installation of plumbing and electrical also occurred at night.
Overnight cleaning services: Our cleaning crew appeared in the middle of the night to polish surfaces, mop floors, and remove dust and debris so that the atrium retained a tidy, spotless appearance during business hours.
Safety precautions: The construction zone was clearly marked as a work in progress. Our subcontractors and construction crew wore hard hats and work boots and followed our mandatory safety initiatives. Our management team maintained continuous 24/7 channels of communication with the property managers.
The six-week construction time frame was achieved on time and on budget. Tenants and visitors were able to work and dine with minimal downtime access to the atrium area and zero disruption to their day-to-day activities and operations. Noise, debris, and equipment were not an issue, as Right Choice Development and Construction devised a demo and installation plan that accommodated a busy building and limited occupant exposure to construction activities. The project flowed smoothly from start to finish thanks to optimal planning and attention to detail.
The building, with hundreds of occupants and thousands of visitors, now has a beautiful seating area where tenants and visitors congregate and a view of a cutting-edge fountain that adds serenity and ambiance to the atrium space.
